The Gifts of Imperfection
by Brené Brown
I haven't stumbled across anything written by Brene Brown that I did not love and this book is no exception. Written so conversationally as if Brene was literally speaking directly, and only, to me, I could'n help bu be personally moved ...

I'd Rather Be Reading: The Delights and Dilemmas of the Reading Life
by Anne Bogel
True to its title, this book was simply delightful. I felt like I was talking with a long-lost friend, a fellow book-lover whose life was just as entangled with the plots, settings and characters of fictional books as they were those in ...

This book shook me to my motherly core. I read this with my 13-year old twins as part of a school assignment and was swept into Cole's story of literally fighting for survival and for love. My children were drawn to Cole's story of survi...

Books make Mondays better! This month, I’m readin Books make Mondays better!

This month, I’m reading BETWEEN CHAPTERS by Zibby Owens.

Zibby doesn’t know it, but she has been what @gretchenrubin calls my spiritual master or my spiritual guide for the bookish work I do. After reading her first memoir BOOKENDS and getting so much inspiration from her daily podcast and work, I not only started one, but two podcasts that lean into the bookish work I love so much.

This book doesn’t release until September, but I’m so grateful to get my hands on it early. Just like her last book, I’m gaining bookish inspiration, but I’m also feeling seen as a parent and woman in the world, too. These essays are honest and raw, funny and poignant, both light and deep. It’s the ultimate reading experience that will make you feel like you’ve found a friend on the page.

What books are making your Monday better?

Mind-body research shows many physical symptoms, s Mind-body research shows many physical symptoms, such as chronic pain, are often the result of a dysregulated nervous system, and that journaling tools, such as expressive writing, can help lessen that dysregulation and support healing.

I'd love for you to join me IN PERSON at the amazing Wiawaka House to explore these ideas together! We'll meet on July 24th from 10am - 12pm.

In this session, we'll explore research and start a healing journey of writing together. This session is for anyone struggling with a chronic condition who would like to explore writing as a way to support wellness.

Join me for a full-day restorative reading retreat Join me for a full-day restorative reading retreat in beautiful upstate New York on July 10th from 9am - 7pm at the Wiawaka House on Lake George!

This isn't your average reading retreat. It's a RESTORATIVE reading a retreat where we take care of your reading habits, hearts and communities so your reading life doesn't only feel better at the end of the day, your actual life does, too.

Here's how it works:

Before the retreat, you’ll complete a quick survey sharing your reading preferences and goals. I'll work my bookish magic and choose the perfect book for you to sink into during the retreat.

The day will be spent in luxurious stretches of reading alternating with spaces for connection, discussion and of course, bookish fun. There's even an adult 'book fair' where you can browse books from the local independent book store: The Book Cabin of Lake George!

We’ll share two meals together and end with celebrations from the day and ways to connect beyond the retreat.

On this episode of the KidLit Love podcast, I’m ta On this episode of the KidLit Love podcast, I’m talking with Jerry Spinelli about his newest middle grade novel: FIFTH GRADE TOP DOGS.

This book is part of his RUN THE SCHOOL series and follows George (aka Suds) as he figures out if he has what it takes to be a top dog at his school. This book might have fifth grade in the title, but it’s truly a book for every reader on the precipice of change, trying to figure out what comes next.

Come listen as we talk about the title-first way the original book in the series was born, a departure from how Jerry usually works, the one word in his philosophy of writing for children that changes everything and his goal to write a good story where meaning, message and guidance come along for the ride. This was truly a pinch-me moment to have such a thoughtful conversation with an author I admire.
